Staff Job Descriptions and Qualifications

All Summer Staff members work together to:
• establish and foster a Christian community in which children can discover their God-given gifts and be affirmed as valued members of that community.
• ensure the health and safety of the entire camp program.

Camp Directors are responsible for all areas of their camps and their programs except for programming implemented by the Chaplain Staff or the Program Director of Shrine Mont. Camp Directors are responsible to the Program Director of Shrine Mont, the Shrine Mont Board of Directors and to the Bishop of Virginia.

General Qualifications:
All staff members must:
* enjoy working with people of all ages;
* be able to assume and share responsibility;
* be able to stimulate others to discover new things and enjoy being at camp;
* be open to outcomes and experiences;
* be willing to set aside their own needs for the needs of their campers;
* complete a Medical History/Consent to Treatment form, and must have a physical exam before camp begins;
* be currently certified in Children's CPR and First Aid (Please plan accordingly to have this certification completed before June 20, 2010);
* submit a Voluntary Disclosure Statement concerning criminal history and sexual misconduct;
*submit to a background check.

Job Details for Summer Camp Positions
* Applicants may apply for as many camps as desired. Many of our camps do not have overlapping schedules, so some may be able to work for more than one camp.
* Lifesaving and experience working with children is preferred.
* Enthusiasm, high energy and ability to work well with other staff is required.

Art Camp
Staff Dates: August 2-14(includes staff training week)
Age Requirement: Applicants must be at least 18 years of age

Counselors for this camp assist the Art Camp Director in all aspects of the program, and serve as the primary contact with campers. Counselors reside with the campers. Counselors supervise and lead campers in organized activities in arts and crafts (assisting the Artist in Residence), worship and recreation. Applicants should have experience and/ or interest in various art media.

Explorers' Camp
Staff Dates: June 21-August 10 (includes periods of time off - email for specific dates. Includes staff training week)
Age Requirement: Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.

Explorers' Camp Counselors assist the Explorers' Camp Director in implementing the program and serve as the primary contact with campers. Counselors reside with the campers. Counselors supervise and lead campers in exploring nature and in outdoor experiential activities, as well as worship, arts and crafts, and recreation. Experience in camping, backpacking, and canoeing is preferred but not required.

 

Music and Drama Camp
Staff Dates: June 21 -July 26 (includes staff training week)
Age Requirement: Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and one year out of high school.

Music and Drama Camp (MAD) Counselors assist the MAD Camp Director in implementing the program and serve as the primary contact with campers. Counselors reside with the campers. Counselors supervise and lead campers in organized activities in arts and crafts, worship and recreation. Applicants should have experience, ability and/or interest in music or drama, and art. Creative people are sought for this camp.

St. Andrew’s Camp (for campers who have special social, developmental, and educational needs)
Staff Dates: June 21 - July 3 (includes staff training week)
Age Requirement: Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.

St. Andrew’s Camp counselors assist the St. Andrew’s Camp Director in implementing the program. Counselors serve as the primary contact with campers. Counselors live with the campers in a home-like setting for the purpose of improving socialization skills and self-esteem while helping the camper live successfully in a small community.

St. Elizabeth’s Camp (moderately mentally impaired campers)
Staff Dates: July 27 - August 2 (includes training time)
Age Requirement: Applicants must be at least 15 years of age.

St. Elizabeth's Camp is made possible because of the generousity of volunteers. We challenge volunteer counselors to set aside their own needs and focus solely on the needs and well-being of our campers. This role requires energy, maturity, compassion, a sense of humor, and good judgment. Volunteer counselors, ages 15 to adult, participate in all camp activities and have daily opportunities to strengthen leadership skills. If you are interested in positively impacting in the lives of individuals with special needs and are willing to be equally rewarded in return, then St. Elizabeth's is the place for you!

 

St. George’s Camp
Staff Dates: June 21 - August 12 (includes staff training week)
Age Requirement: Applicants must be at least 18 years of age

St. George’s Camp Counselors assist the St. George’s Camp Director in implementing the program and serve as the primary contact with campers. Counselors reside with the campers. Counselors supervise and lead campers in arts and crafts, worship and recreation. Musical ability or leadership experience in one or more of the following is preferred but not required: art, drama, sports, canoeing, swimming.

St. Sebastian's Sports Camp
Staff Dates: June 21 - July 13 (includes staff training week)
Age Requirement: Applicants must be at least 17 years of age.

Camp Counselors assist the Director in implementing the program and serve as the primary contact with campers. Staff members for this camp are expected to be active, and interested in practicing and learning different sports with the campers. Counselors reside with the campers and supervise and lead them in practices, organized activities, group building, worship and recreation. Sports experience is preferred but not required.

Senior High Youth Conference
Staff Dates: June 21 - June 24, July 18 - July 25 (includes training week)
Age Requirement: Applicants must be at least 21 years of age.

Senior High Youth Conference (SHYC) counselors assist the SHYC Camp Director in implementing the program and serve as the primary contact with senior high youth. Counselors reside with campers and supervise and lead them in community service projects, group building, worship and recreation.
